Holy Grounds is a café and gift store located in the heart of downtown Austin. Our full espresso bar serves fair-trade, organic coffee from Texas Coffee Traders. We support local artists, green products, and the fair-trade movement. We love being a part of St. David’s Hospitality Ministry and serving our community alongside Café Divine and The Space at St. David’s.
Our staff of trained baristas, and the Manager, Taylor, are devoted to representing our brand’s mission to be a haven in downtown Austin, where commuters and parishioners can feel warm, invited, and a part of a community. Job Title: Barista/Hospitality Staff
Reports To: Coffee Shop Manager/Director of Events
You will be working in one department but for two businesses. As the Holy Grounds Barista, you must provide excellent customer service and produce high-quality coffee and other beverages; sandwiches, and other menu items, assist in selling books, cards, and gifts. As Café Divine and Event Staff, you will work in support to the Director of Events for any events that happen on site.
$15 per hour. Holy Grounds and The Space Staff receive tips on top of an hourly rate.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
- Produces high quality menu items, including but not limited to espresso, coffee and tea-based drinks, food items including salads, sandwiches, and cold snacks. Must take initiative to monitor inventory and be sure menu items are well-stocked for rush periods. Takes initiative in staying ahead of prep work and in keeping shop clean.
- Provide excellent and consistently satisfactory customer service on a daily basis. Maintains positive attitude and calm demeanor even during intense service periods.
- Must be able to perform opening and closing tasks to get shop ready or close up at the end of day.
- Must be capable of learning and utilizing Point of Sale software as well as other financial software such as QuickBooks Pro.
- Must have a flexible schedule. Must be able to work Sundays, Christmas Eve and Easter.
- This position is approximately 16 hours a week as a Holy Grounds Barista and opportunity for additional hours as Event Staff.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Coffee shop experience or restaurant experience preferred
- Must be current on City of Austin Food Handler’s certification or obtain within 2 weeks of being hired.
- Background check required.
- Safeguarding God’s Children Certification required 3 months after hired.
